The Clay-Battelle girls basketball team has compiled a great 14-3 record thus far, but the Cee Bees success does come as a bit of a shock.
They have a new head coach in place this season and are very young with just three seniors on the roster, however a tournament run is expected in Blacksville this year, especially with a dynamite sophomore leading the charge.
"I think the girls at first were apprehensive and stuff and we didn't have the communication like I would like, they were quiet and stuff like that but as the years progressed we've communicated back and forth and have worked hard for the goals that we're after," Clay-Battelle head coach David Price said.
The Cee Bees have spent the entire season adjusting to the new fast paced system and have made sure that they're on the radar for the rest of the Class A schools in the state. For guard Katlyn Casino, she's been getting noticed since she first picked up a basketball.
"My sisters friends are basically boys and I had to play ball against them and they pushed me the hardest, and they gave it to me like I was one of them. Which made me tougher and tough me a lesson," sophomore Katlyn Casino said.
Those lessons are translating onto the floor as Casino is emerging as a leader for this very young squad. The road through the regional most likely will travel through Trinity, but the Cee Bees know that the payoff of a state tournament spot is within their reach.
"It would mean a lot for us to get down there. It would show this community how much we want it because at first they didn't have any faith in us because we lost two of the big players last year," Casino added.
"I mean time will tell, I don't try to get caught up in all the rankings and stuff, its what we put out on that floor that's going to matter at the end of the day," Price added.
