A Lewis County man accused of shooting his wife struck a plea bargain with authorities Thursday.

Samuel Smith pleaded guilty to one count of wanton endangerment.

He said he was trying to commit suicide the night he accidentally shot his wife last April.

The court dropped an additional original charge of malicious wounding.

Judge Thomas Keadle sentenced him to one year with the department of corrections.
