Upshur County Sheriff's Department Hires New Deputy

BUCKHANNON -

The Upshur County Sheriff's Department has hired a new deputy sheriff.

Sheriff Virgil Miller said Jason Queen will start his duties on Feb. 19.

Miller made the announcement at Thursday's Upshur County Commission meeting.

Queen has filled in as a deputy before, and has experience working in law enforcement.

"That saves us not only money, but time because that's a 14 to 15 week absence we'd hire an officer and then sent down to be trained to get his certification to be an officer in West Virginia," said Upshur County Sheriff Virgil Miller.

Miller said Queen will replace Troy Brady, who will serve part time as chief deputy of investigations with the department. Brady retired in January as a deputy sheriff.
