Randolph County residents gathered in Beverly Thursday night to hear from the school board about their plans to make some improvements in the district.
The Randolph County Board of Education will be traveling around the county throughout February, hosting forums to hear recommendations on improvements to some of its oldest schools.
Superintendent Jim Phares says the board is planning now to see these improvements become reality, however long it takes.
"We're looking at a long-term process, or maybe a short-term process, for school improvements in five of our county schools," said Phares
These forums are part of the second stage of the schools' development plan.
Getting community input on the changes has been important from the start.
"It's the second stage in a planning process to get exactly what the community thinks they want in their schools," he said.
Although Beverly Elementary has some unique issues, Phares says it has a lot in common with the other four schools
"Here we have a facility that has both a gym and a cafeteria, so we're looking at separating the gym and cafeteria. In some of the schools, there's improvement to instructional spaces, but most of it will address health, safety issues," said Phares.
There are four more meetings at the other schools to show the plans for improvements at each one. The next meeting is on the 16th at Homestead Elementary, followed by forums at Harman, Coalton, and Tygart Valley High/Middle School.
