Reporter ahines@wboy.com I joined WBOY in September 2010, and am looking forward to working here in Clarksburg! I'm a native of Western Pennsylvania and a graduate of Westminster College (Go Titans!),

High school students across the state gathered at 19 different colleges and universities for College Goal Sunday. The program offers high school students heading to college help in filling out their Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

The FAFSA, as it's better known, is a form that's used to help determine how much aid students can get to help pay for school. And it can be kind of intimidating to take on.

"Well that was basically that feeling of, 'Oh, I don't know what I'm supposed to be doing right now,' and just kind of that, 'Oh, I need to look this up and I don't know what I'm doing and I don't know if I'm doing this correctly.' So yeah, it was really helpful having this here," said Elkins resident Farha Khan, who was having her form checked at Davis and Elkins College Sunday afternoon.

Organizers say having this kind of assistance available is important. It helps make people more familiar with the world of financial aid as they prepare for college.

"We don't have a high number of individuals who've gone on to college or technical schools, but we have more that want to do that, and having College Goal Sunday allows people the opportunity to feel comfortable with that process," said Site Coordinator Suder-Howse.

And for students like Khan, who brought her FAFSA in to be double-checked, it turns out that the process isn't so hard.

"It's a lot easier than you think it is. I mean, you just see all these blank fields, and you're just like, I don't know what goes here, and it's OK, because it's a lot simpler than it looks," she said.
