A few weeks, or even days for some teams, into the WVIAC softball season, a duo of players from Davis & Elkins College has swept this week's league awards. This is just the second time in the 2012 season that the conference has handed out its weekly award.
Infielder Mallory Wishard is the WVIAC Player of the Week. Autumn Appleby is the WVIAC Pitcher of the Week. Wishard and Appleby are the first two local players to take home the awards.
Junior Wishard was 9-21 at the plate, making it a .429 average on the week. D&E is 4-3 so far on the season. The Waynesboro, Pa. native hit 10 RBIs, scored 10 runs herself and had three stolen bases.
Freshman Appleby went 2-1 from the mound this past week for the Lady Senators. She pitched 21 innings and struck out 30 batters.
D&E pitcher Alanna Jones was also named as another top pitcher for the week's WVIAC play.
