The Harrison County Relay for Life may not be until June, but organizers are already getting prepared.
They held a kickoff event Thursday night at United Hospital Center.
Team leaders came out to get an early start to ensure the relay's continued success.
This year's theme is "Turn Up the Heat on Cancer," and some people are already fired up for the cause.
"We need to work together on it and get rid of it altogether,"said cancer survivor Janice McMurdo. "I worked for polio back when I was young, and people said 'you'll never find a cure, you're crazy for taking up money.' But you know what, it was a privilege to go around to those people and say 'look, we got it, we got the cure.' Because you hardly ever hear or tell of polio anymore, so, I'm just hoping and praying that this works for cancer."
The Harrison County Relay for Life hopes to raise $125,000 this year.
