Monongalia County Sheriff's Department Moves to New Building

Posted: Updated:

For months divisions of the Monongalia County Sheriff's Department have been operating out of the old and new building.

But as of 7 a.m. Friday all employees and their belongings were working out of the new Walnut Street home.

In the new facility the department has almost 20,000 more square feet than the previous office.

"We just hired a couple more deputies that will start the 1st of March," said Sheriff Al Kisner, of the Monongalia County Sheriff's Department. "Each deputy now has their own work area, their own space to store their files, their reports and things like that. Where before they always had to give them to the records clerk who would file them in the records room and then if they needed them for court they'd have to go back to her to get those records."

The Sheriff's Department has altered its hours for concealed weapons permits and public fingerprinting. The hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
