The Morgantown Planning Commission held an open workshop Monday night, discussing the regulation of gas and oil drilling.
The planning commission has been researching ways the city can regulate all extractive industries, such as oil, gas, and mining through zoning.
They presented a rough draft of a code to the public for discussion on Monday.
While residents raised many questions, ideas and opinions, the commission feels the open workshop was a success.
"I think it went very well," said Chris Fletcher, the City's Director of Development Services. "It was well attended. All those folks we invited were here this evening, and they brought some folks as well. I thought the comments were some of what we had expected and some very good comments that will require us to do some more work."
The commission will continue working towards an official draft of the regulation. They hope to bring an official code before the entire planning commission in April.
