The proof is in that the Fairmont State men's and women's cross country teams works just as hard in the classroom as they does on the trails.
The Falcons have earned All-Academic honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The FSU men are just one of 80 Division II teams to receive the accolade. The women are a part of 124 teams.
The runners post a team GPA of 3.35 on the men's side and 3.30 on the women's side. For the Falcon men, that is the ninth best team GPA in all of D-II.
The award goes hand in hand with athletics because the rules to qualify are that any team must have a combined GPA of 3.0 or better and the squad has to have compiled a score at its NCAA regional championship (finish at lead five runners).
Three WVIAC men's cross country teams earned All-Academic honors along with five women's teams.
