Swimming is not a WVIAC sport. Not enough league schools field teams. Because of that, several schools that compete in the WVIAC in other sports, compete in the Blue Mountain Conference in swimming.

Fairmont State excelled this past weekend at the BMC Swimming Championships, hosted by Wingate University.

Kathryn Saurborn was the brightest Falcon star at the meet. The junior not only won the 50 Free even with a time of 23.34, she set a new meet record. She even improved by .03 tenths of a second on her preliminary time.

In the 500 Free event, Alina Zakharava finished in 5:14:58 for 14th place.

FSU finished eighth in the 200 Free Relay and 10th in the 400 Medley Relay.

The Fairmont State Women finished the meet as the No. 10 team.

The FSU men's swimming team also swam well, securing a seventh place team finish.

Pasko Komadina finished the highest of any Falcon swimming with a fifth place 500 Free even time of 4:37:19. In the same event, Emir Atilgan finished 13th. In the 50 Free event, Nuri Erhan finished 17th and David Dent 18th.

The FSU 200 Free Relay came in ninth.
