For the second time in three years Robert C. Byrd High School is searching for a new head football coach because the current leader of the Eagles is flying the coop to join the Fairmont State Falcons. Josh Gorrell has resigned as the Robert C. Byrd Head Football Coach to become the defensive line coach at FSU.
The Eagles went 18-14 in Gorrell's three seasons at the helm including two playoff appearances.
For Coach Gorrell, he's actually returning to the FSU staff. Gorrell was the linebackers coach at Fairmont in from 2001-02.
He said returning to the staff there is getting a chance to do what he's wanted to do. Gorrell is comfortable on the defensive side of the ball.
Coach Gorrell said he hopes that he taught the players at RCB to never give up, but also that there's more to life than football.
Josh Gorrell will continue to teach at RCB and is excited to be coaching with Bryan Fisher again, also a former RCB head coach.
