Traffic patterns will be altered and delayed on Friday, February, 24 in Monongalia County and surrounding counties following the funeral service of fallen Deputy Michael ‘Todd' May, according to a news release from the Morgantown Police Department.
The traffic patterns will be altered and delayed beginning at 1 p.m., following the funeral service at Chestnut Church in Cheat Lake. Officials said drivers are urged to use caution, use alternate routes and be respectful to the funeral procession.
Interstate 68 West will be closed at approximately 1 p.m. to allow traffic from the funeral procession to exit the church. Officials said the procession will then travel to I-68, Exit 1, University Avenue.
The procession will continue on and travel North onto University Avenue, Beechurst Avenue and Monongahela Boulevard and then travel onto I 79, Entrance 155 North proceeding towards the Ruff Creek Exit on Pennsylvania I 79 Exit 19 then towards Greene County Memorial Park, 1003 Jefferson Rd, Waynesburg, Pennsylvania.
Deputy Director of Monongalia County Homeland Security and MECCA 911 Mike Wolfe said people who want to pay tribute to Deputy May or watch the funeral procession should gather along South University or Beechurst avenues.
Wolfe said anyone interested is paying tribute or watching the procession need to be in place along University and Beechurst Avenues prior to 1 p.m.
Officers from Marion County Sheriff's Department, Bridgeport Police Department and the City of Morgantown Public Works department will help in blocking traffic for the procession along the downtown route, officials said.
