A local sculptor has designed a statue of Morgantown founder Zackquil Morgan. Now the Daughters of the America Revolution is trying to pay for it.
The Morgantown Brewing Company will host a benefit Saturday to raise money to build the statue.
Tickets will cost $20. The event will include house brews and entrees and a silent auction.
Organizers may need to raise as much as $45,000 to pay for a life-sized bronze statue.
"Well we were an obvious partner first because we have a Zach Morgan's IPA on tap, that's delicious, so we were more than willing to team up with the Daugthers of the American Revolution to help with this cause," said sculptor Jamie Lester. "Especially because we are a locally owned business, locally operated, alumni based. So what I really want to do is make a portrait of Zackquil Morgan as best I can but also create this icon that the people of Morgantown can look at and be proud of."
Sculptor Jamie Lester also designed the Jerry West statue at the coliseum and the West Virginia quarter.
The statue would go in the Hazel Ruby McQuain Park.
