Sheriff Albert Marano said the investigation into an incident last month in Harrison County in which a man suffered fatal burns has been closed.
Marano said his staff evaluated reports from officers, the medical examiner, and the hospital and found no evidence of foul play.
He said he could reopen the case if new evidence comes to light.
