Officials with the city of Morgantown are speaking out about the events that took place on St. Patrick's Day, and a video that documents the day's destruction.
The YouTube video "I'm Schmacked" was produced by a website that travels to schools and highlights celebration weekends.
Less than 24 hours after posting the video it had garnered more than 60,000 hits.
City officials reacted to the video at last night's city council meeting and said they plan to partner with West Virginia University to address and punish student behavior.
They're also using the video to identify students responsible for unlawful acts on Saturday.
"We took the video from the "I'm Schmacked" group and that was valuable video, like to thank them for that because the video footage they provided us gave us a lot of information," said Chief Mark Caravassos of the Morgantown Fire Department. "We were able to pick out people on it and that information's been passed on to West Virginia University and they're actively pursuing it and we hope to be able to use some of the video we saw on that to be able to catch some of the perpetrators."
"Well it seems like this has been going on a long time now," said Jim Manilla of the City of Morgantown. "I really don't know what the answer is. But we're not giving up. We've asked our police and fire chief to come back to council with some type of ideas, solutions, you know, what council can do to correct this problem."
The police said thousands of students from other schools like Penn State and Maryland were in Morgantown for Spring Break, and were part of the problem
