Race organizers kick off the Clarksburg 10K with a dinner every year. Thursday night it was held at the Bridgeport Country Club.
Awards are part of the program and the 6th Annual J. Cecil Jarvis Commitment Award went to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. Florio lives in the Clarksburg area and is often seen on NBC sports.
Fred Smart accepted the Volunteer Award and Basil Lucas received the Kids K Award/Teen Training Challenge "Leadership Award".
Bridgeport High star pitcher Brady Weaver, who has run the 10K several times also received a Special Recognition.
A big part of the dinner recognizes local middle school kids who receive medals for participating in a pre-race program.
10K Co-Chairman Larry Mazza said the kickoff dinner is a great way to start the event.
"I think it sets the mood. A person like Mike Florio winning the Cecil Jarvis Award just really kicks it off. He's one of the best sports writers in the county and it shows the level of quality standard we're setting."
