CLARKSBURG -

You'll find fall and winter high school sports teams out practicing during the three week period. Lots of football, basketball, volleyball and soccer.

The Robert C. Byrd boys soccer team has been bearing the heat to get in some skill work during summer drills. Head Coach Todd Kiger said his team doesn't shoot a lot because they have to learn to pass and handle the ball first.

From what he's seen so far, Kiger said this could be one of the deepest teams he's ever had, talent wise. Summer drills are also a good time to figure out where everyone needs to go.

Byrd has had a great turnout at soccer practice and there are several different things the Eagles want to accomplish during the three week period.

"I just think it's a lot of dedication, lot of heart, wanting to get better as a group. Obviously our goal is to make it to states this year so I think we all just want to work as hard as we can on that," said sophomore Chaz Rodeheaver.

"Well we're just, I'm just trying to evaluate the players, what they've done since the last season where they are skill wise, we do a little bit of scrimmaging to see, put them in game situations but nothing real heavy, we don't, we wait until August to do the conditioning," said Coach Kiger.

"Team bonding, moving the ball around as team, fundamentals like receiving the ball and distributing it and stuff like that," said sophomore Ross Thompson.
