The expansion at the North Central West Virginia Regional Airport will soon be finished.
The airport closed its doors for crews to re-pave the runway Thursday.
They have worked around the clock to reopen the airport for Monday morning. The task that has been made more difficult by the weather's intense heat, said Bryan Leatherman of J.F. Allen Company.
"This pavement goes down at about 300 degrees," he said. "These guys behind the machines are out here in this heat with ambient temperatures around 95 degrees, and then you've got 300 degree asphalt staring back in your face. It's been hot. They've been drinking a lot of water."
The runway expansion started in April.
Once complete, the runway will be 800 feet longer and able to facilitate larger planes.
