During the three week summer practice period that high school athletic teams are allotted each year, now in its third week, coaches like to scrimmage their players to see how they stack up against competition.
Several local high school girls basketball teams participate in a summer league in Fairmont, hosted my Fairmont Senior, including Lincoln.
The Cougars are looking to replace a few key players that graduated and the team already has high hopes for the upcoming season, like a return trip to the state tournament. Getting back into tournament shape is one of the challenges teams face.
"Right now, the problem we're having is frustration because they expect to be where they were at the end of last season and they're not," explained Head Coach Rob Hawkins. "We had so many play softball and didn't really get a chance to play a lot in the spring, that so far in the summer, they're just so frustrated right now because they're not where they think the should be. Their mind is telling them one thing and their body is not letting them do it."
