Greenbrier Classic Day 1: Vijay Singh Leads The Way With A 63 (-7)

The Greenbrier Classic has gotten a bit more national attention ever since Tiger Woods signed on to play the Old White Course. But on Thursday Tiger was blind sided by the emergence of Vijay Singh.

Singh exploded out of the gates to shoot a tournament-best round of 63.

Tiger began the morning pretty well with four birdies in his first 12 holes of regulation. But came undone soon after that with a bogey on 13 and a double-bogey on 17.

Woods three-putted on 17, which gave him a score of 1-over instead of ending the day with a 1- or even 2-under par.

Last year's champion Scott Stalling's ended the day tied for 37th and a score of 1-under.

Phil Mickelson finished right alongside Tiger with a 1-over as well.

Tuesday's rain caused many players to retreat inside instead of taking part in practice rounds. Tiger says that certainly cost him today, especially since it's his first time playing the Greenbrier.

"The last three tournaments the greens have been awfully quick and they had a lot of swing at the end because of how fast they are," Tiger Woods said. "I missed literally every single putt high today. I never hit one that missed on the low side. Everything was missing high and I was giving too much break, too much borrow."

"It's my first good round of the year I would say, that I felt really comfortable with," current leader Vijay Singh said. "It's a good way to start a tournament. I'm looking forward to the rest of the week."
