Mylan Park in Morgantown was the site for the first-ever Mountaineer Shootout Softball Tournament.
The tournament is a fast-pitch travel league event put on by the United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA).
Teams from all around the state of West Virginia, including squads from Kentucky and Maryland traveled up to the University City.
The shootout will conclude on Sunday with a bracket-style tournament, but on Saturday the heat was tough to ignore.
"Everybody is holding up and just glad that there is no rain," tournament director James Hightower said. "With the storms, some have been without electric in the second set of cells on Tuesday. So these people are just glad to be out and their kids are just glad to do something this week."
"For us, a local team, we're traveling all the time and in hotels so it's been great. Even talking to some of the parents from the Charleston area, they seem to like it. Everybody is tolerating the heat so I think that's kind of the big topic today though," Morgantown travel team head coach Randy Bryner said.
