The Glenville State men's basketball team has some pretty good connections to West Virginia University. Former Mountaineers Joe Mazzulla and Rob Summers are both assistant coaches on the GSC staff.
Basketball schedules are being released and on Thursday it was announced that the Pioneers will take on the Mountaineers in an exhibition game in the upcoming season. The game will take place at the WVU Coliseum in Morgantown on Monday, November 5, 2012.
12Sports got the opportunity to talk to Glenville State Men's Basketball Coach Stephen Dye following the announcement. Coach Dye said that ever since Mazzulla and Summers joined the GSC staff, the two teams have been talking about doing an exhibition game. Coach Dye wanted to make it happen last season, but it wouldn't work out in the scheduling.
Coach Dye is excited for the exhibition game because it will be great for Glenville State. The game will give the Pioneers good exposure as a program and it will definitely be effective on the recruiting trail.
Coach Dye said it will be a great atmosphere in Morgantown, it always is for a basketball game. He also said the game will be a learning experience for his team.
Coach Dye said the game will be different than any other the Pioneers will play all year. WVU will be biggest, faster and stronger than other opponents. Coach Dye said opening up the season with a tough exhibition game will prepare his team for the season.
