The president and general counsel of the Family Policy Council of West Virginia has sent a letter to West Virginia University's President, warning him of the potential violation of Federal law, following reports that WVU was considering removing Chick-fil-A from campus, according to a news release from the Family Policy Council of W.Va.
"Every American, and every Mountaineer, should be free to live, learn, and do business according to their faith," said Jeremiah Dys, president of the Family Policy Council of West Virginia. "West Virginia University must show its students that they will not only defend the right of free speech, but that university will encourage that person to live their lives according to what they have to say."
The letter to President Clements comes following demands by activists from Fairness W.Va. that WVU remove Chick-fil-A from campus in retaliation for comments made by its COO, Dan Cathy, according to the news release.
Alliance Defending Freedom (formerly Alliance Defense Fund) has also sent a letter to WVU that further explains the potential legal liability WVU would create should they follow through with the demands of Fairness W.Va., officials said.
