Lady Falcon Swimming, Tennis Teams Earn Academic Honors

The Fairmont State University women's swimming and tennis teams have both been recognized for work in the classroom.

The swimming team was named a Scholar All-America team by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA). The team earned the award in the fall semester of 2011 and the spring semester of 2012.

The Lady Falcons had a team GPA of 3.25.

Scholar All-America team awards go to collegiate swimming and diving team. Eligible programs must have a team GPA of 3.0 or better.

The oldest coaching association in the U.S., the CSCAA also hands out All-American individual accolades.

The tennis team was named an All-Academic Team by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Six players were also named ITA Scholar-Athletes.

The Lady Falcons had a team GPA of 3.5.

The women's tennis team was among 67 NCAA Division II teams to get the award from the ITA.

Squads are eligible to be an ITA All-Academic Team if it's an ITA program and has a combined GPA of 3.2 or better. The GPA of all athletes who played in at least one varsity match must be factored into the team score.

The six individual players who also earned academic honors include: Heidi Bastin, Caitlin Crutchfield, Lauren Hamilton, Erin McKown, Goldie Preston and Brittany Shumate.

In order to receive the individual honor, a student athlete must be a varsity letter winner, have a GPA of 3.5 or better and have been enrolled at the college or university or two semesters.
