The Alderson-Broaddus College football team took the field for the first time on Saturday evening to play the inaugural Blue and Gold Scrimmage.
The Battlers made use of the Multi-Sport Performance Stadium in Philippi.
The defense on both sides looked above average with several big hits coming during the game. The Gold team took out the Blue team in a close one 13-10.
Battlers' Head Coach Denny Creehan understands this is going to be a work in progress. His level of excitement is pretty tough to ignore.
"Off the charts, it really is," Coach Creehan said. "Did you see all those people watching the scrimmage? We didn't get that many people at games at other places I've been. There's a lot of enthusiasm. The kids had a lot of fun tonight, banged each other around a little bit. They've been saving up for this so it was a good test."
The Battler football team disbanded in 1930 and the Blue and Gold Scrimmage marks the first time a football team has played since then.
A-B will travel to Kentucky Christian for its first game on Monday, Aug 27 at 4 p.m.
