Alderson-Broaddus College has announced plans to leave the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and join the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC).
The Battlers will finish out the academic year as a member of the WVIAC. The move to the GMAC will be effective beginning September 2013.
The Great Midwest Athletic Conference is based out of Indianapolis and was approved by the NCAA Division II Membership Committee in February 2012.
As of now, the GMAC consists of six active members, including Cedarville University, Central State University, Kentucky Wesleyan College, Trevecca Nazarene University, Urbana University and Ursuline College.
Alderson-Broaddus will join the conference as an associate member in 2013. The GMAC currently does not offer football or swimming as a varsity sport, although some of its current members are football-playing schools.
The Battlers are looking into joining two or three different conferences in order to begin playing football as a full member in 2013, while the GMAC starts the process of building its product as a football-playing conference.
Alderson-Broaddus College will host a press conference on Monday, Aug 20 at 2 p.m.
