Silo Collapses in Albright Power Plant's Final Days

Posted: Updated:

A coal ash silo collapsed Monday at the Albright Power Plant in Preston County.

The 'number 2' silo stored residue of burned coal to create electricity.

It was one of three silos at the power plant.

The plant had just 10 days left to produce power.

Mon Power announced earlier in the year that Albright would be shut down in response to the new Mercury and Air Toxic Standards set by the EPA.

Mon Power spokesman Mark Durbin said engineers are investigating what may have happened to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Mon Power is working to make sure the coal ash is disposed of properly.
