This fall, when heading to that football game or an outdoor event, you want to be sure to grab the bug spray on your way out.
The Center for Disease Control said 2012 has been the worst year for West Nile Virus across the country.
The Monongalia County Health Department said West Virginia has had one confirmed case of the disease and none in the Monongalia County , but that it's still important to be aware of its potential.
"If you get a mosquito bite you could contract West Nile," said Ted Krafczyk of the MCHD. "It all depends on whether the mosquito has West Nile Virus or not. That's why we ask you to take precautionary measures. If you wear long sleeves then you won't get bitten. Right now, what we can tell you is that there is West Nile in some of the mosquitos."
The health department said people should be sure to use bug spray when going out, wear long sleeves around dawn and dusk, check and repair window and door screens, and empty standing water that may be in pots and buckets outside your home.
