An Upshur County coal mine will be idle due to a lack of market demand, although no layoffs are expected.
Imperial Mine employs about 50 people and approximately 10 people will continue to work there, while the rest will be transferred to Grafton's new Leer Mine, according to Arch Coal Spokeswoman Kim Link.
The Leer Mine will need more than 200 new employees in the next six months to run that state-of-the-art facility.
The idling is caused by market conditions of coal. When conditions bounce back, Imperial will reopen, Link said.
