MONONGALIA COUNTY -

The Granville Volunteer Fire department said a Sunday morning fire appears suspicious.

Shortly after 4 a.m. Sunday, the fire department responded to a house fire on Lazzelle Union Road in the Maidsville area.

Granville's fire chief Butch Renner said the fire started on the outside of the abandoned two-story house, making it the second suspicious fire in the area in a week's time.

Renner said it took about 30 minutes to control the fire.

He said Westover Volunteer Fire Department, Star City Volunteer Fire Department, and Mount Morris Volunteer Fire Department also responded.

Renner said nobody was injured in the incident and he plans to notify the fire marshal.
