Republic Services, City of Morgantown Introduce New Recycling Service

Posted: Updated:

A new recycling service will start next Monday in Morgantown. Republic Services is starting a program called "Morgantown's Clean Community Concept."

The idea is to reduce waste by collecting recycling weekly, rather than every other week.

Recycling and waste collection will occur on the same day. Residents will now be able to recycle more materials, all without sorting. Those include newspaper, glass bottles, cardboard, steel and aluminum cans, and plastic.

"Morgantown's Clean Community Concept" is a two-part program. It will first allow residents to recycle weekly with their current hand-carry bin. That starts October 1.

The recycling service will then transition to an automated program using larger wheeled carts the week of January 7, 2013. The 65-gallon carts will be delivered the week of December 10, 2012.

When the program begins in January, the current recycling bins that residents hand-carry to the curb will no long be used, as only recyclables in wheeled carts will be collected.
