This week, Friday night football didn't apply to just high school. The Glenville State football team's difficult road schedule continued, in Missouri.
The Pioneers traveled south to take on Lindenwood in a non-conference game. GSC dropped a tough one 28-24 and moves to 1-3 on the season.
GSC scored first in the first quarter when Colston Bayless split the uprights with a 22-yard field goal. The Pioneers moved the score to a 10-0 advantage when Derek McRae ran in a touchdown as the first quarter clock wound down.
In the second quarter the Pioneers stuck against at quarterback Darold Hughes connected with Robert Jiles on a 36-yard scoring pass. Glenville led 17-0 heading into halftime.
Lindenwood finally got on the board in the third quarter but Glenville answered as Rahmann Lee ran the ball in 18 yards for a touchdown. The pioneers held a 24-7 lead with about half the third quarter to play.
The fourth quarter was all Lindenwood. The home team scored 21 unanswered points, including the game winner with about three minutes to play.
Lindenwood beat Glenville State 28-24.
Hughes finished the night with 215 passing yards and one touchdown. Lee rushed for 165 yards on 27 carries with one touchdown. Jiles had 79 receiving yards and one score.
GSC had 401 yards of total offense and 23 first downs.
The defense was anchored by James Johnson who collected eight tackles. Taylor Coleman and Emmanuel Smith both grabbed interceptions.
James Johnson led the defense with eight tackles, including a game-high six solo stops. Emmanuel Smith and Taylor Coleman each had an interception in the loss.
