The West Virginia Army National Guard is getting a new armory and Marion County Schools hope to take over the old location.
The Hershel "Woody" Williams National Guard Armory will be moved to a new location in East Fairmont.
Marion County Schools pay rent to use the current facility for Fairmont Senior basketball games and other community activities.
The board plans to renovate the building. The purchase will cost about $300,000.
"So this should be a win, win situation for us," said Gary Price, Marion County Schools Superintendent. "We should end up with a nice facility that's now going to belong to us and then we should also end up at least even or maybe even a little better than even on the financial end of it."
Marion County Schools hope to continue honoring the soldiers by naming the facility "Veterans Memorial."
