UPDATE: Fire Departments Investigating House Fire Near Worthington

The State Fire Marshal is still investigating a house fire in Worthington that occurred Wednesday, September 26, and rekindled and burned to the ground Thursday, September 27.

The fire is believed to be arson, according to Mackey Ayersman, Assistant State Fire Marshal.

After suspecting that an accelerant was used, Ayersman said samples of the flooring were taken to the State Police Forensic lab for hydrocarbon analysis.

Fire damaged a house in Worthington Wednesday night and destroyed the house, when it rekindled Thursday afternoon.

The Worthington Fire Department said the house was abandoned and all utilities were turned off.

Shinnston, Worthington, Monongah, and Farmington Fire Departments all responded.

Worthington Fire Department said the fire was extinguished before it left.

Thursday, the fire rekindled and emergency personnel were called back to the scene to see the structure burning to the ground.

Neighbors said the house has been vacant for years and that the activity is suspicious.

The structure is total loss.

Worthington Fire Department officials said the cause of the fire is still unknown.

They are turning it over to the State Fire Marshal for investigation.
