MORGANTOWN -

Investigators from the Morgantown Fire and Police Departments are investigating a series of seven street fires that occurred late Saturday night and into early Sunday morning.

The last street fire was reported at 6:57 a.m., at 725 Cass Street, and spread to three parked vehicles.

A 2003 Dodge Dakota, a 2006 Chevrolet Canyon, and a 2000 Chevrolet Lumina were all destroyed by fire, officials said.

A home at 725 Cass Street suffered minor heat damage to its exterior.

Investigators believe the fuel tank on the Dodge Dakota ruptured as the burning furniture ignited the rear tires of the vehicle. The burning gasoline then spread to two other parked vehicles.

Remnants of several burnt mattresses were also found at 725 Cass Street. All of the vehicles were determined to be total loss, officials said.

Initial damage estimates were $35,000 for the vehicles, and $1,000 for the home.

Another fire at 700 Cass Street was reported at 5:19 a.m., and five other fires were reported at the following locations: 200 block of Grant Avenue, North Spruce Street, McLane Alley, 300 block of Grant Avenue, and the 100 block of Jones Avenue.

Investigators have not determined if there is any connection between the fires at 700 and 725 Cass Street.

Anyone with information about the fires should call the Morgantown Arson Tip-Line at 304-225-3586.
