This is Breast Cancer Awareness Month but United Hospital Center is working hard to raise awareness for all types of cancer.

The Bridgeport hospital's cancer center will host a blood drive Thursday, October 11 and Friday, October 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

It said blood donations are vital in the treatment of every type of cancer.

"Blood's really important to all cancer patients; it's a lot of times their survival link," said Peggy Johnson, of UHC. "They desperately need this blood to continue on through their treatment because their treatment can sometimes deplete their blood cells."

The American Red Cross will sponsor the blood drive.

Call this toll-free number, 800-733-2767, to find out if you are eligible to donate.
