ELKINS -

Construction is underway on a new multi purpose building for Glendale Park in Elkins.

The new building will contain restrooms, an eight by 16 area designed for concessions for youth organizations, and a storage facility for park equipment.

Officials said it's a response to the public's growing use of the park.

"Joggers, walkers, bikecylists, skateboarders, people down here flying kites, fishing whatever. It's a community project and the whole community and surrounding area will benefit from it," said Phil Gainer.

Gainer said $59,000 in grants and donations have gone into the building's construction.

Youth Build on Randolph County is doing most of the construction work.

It should be finished later this fall.
