ELKINS -

Thursday was kids day at the Mountain State Forest Festival in Elkins.

More than 1,200 elementary students from across the county came to Elkins City Park for activities that included a petting zoo, a primitive campground exhibit, painting, and several other hands-on exhibits.

Teachers said it was fun to bring the students out for a day of fun.

"They really like it, it's a chance for them to get out of the classroom yet it's still educational they get to do the petting zoo and we went through the primitive camping they really enjoyed themselves," said Julie Corley, of Coalton Elementary School.
