US Court of Appeals Visits WVU College of Law

Posted: Updated:

WVU students got a look into the workings of the US Court of Appeals.

Student filled the Marlyn E. Lugar Courtroom at WVU's College of Law, as well as a nearby classroom, as the Fourth Circuit heard three cases Thursday.

Court convened for about three hours. One professor said this is the first time many students have seen oral arguments in person.

"When you have a live oral argument in front of you, you get a sense of the decorum of an appellate argument," said WVU Law Professor Bob Bastress. "You get a sense of the rigor that is involved in a high quality court with high quality lawyers."

The fourth circuit stops by WVU about once every three years. The West Virginia Supreme court also visits the school.
