WVU Healthcare Releases Statement Following Meningitis Outbreak

    An electrical fire destroyed a home in Harrison County Tuesday night. The Harrison County 911 Center said it started just after 12:15 a.m. on Locust Street in Salem. It said the fire appears to be suspicious.

West Virginia University Healthcare has issued a statement following the fungal meningitis outbreak that resulted from a steroid injection used for back pain:

"In light of the recent national news about the fungal meningitis outbreak that resulted from a steroid injection commonly used for back pain, WVU Healthcare wants to assure its patients and the community at large that the product in question has never been used at Ruby Memorial Hospital or any WVU Healthcare clinics. Our pharmacy staff has done thorough checks of our medications and determined that we have never purchased this medication from the New England Compounding Center for WVU Healthcare patients."
