Senator Rockefeller Attends WV Interoperable Radio Conference in Kingwood

Posted: Updated:

Senator Rockefeller was in Kingwood Monday discussing a public safety communication network that will connect first responders nationwide.

The Public Safety Spectrum and Wireless Innovation Act was passed last year. Monday, Rockefeller addressed and thanked officials at the sixth annual West Virginia Interoperable Radio Conference for their support on the network.

Senator Rockefeller said the network will be crucial in handling natural disasters or major emergencies like the 2007shooting at Virginia Tech.

"Virginia Tech really could have used that, it took them a long time to figure out who was culpable," Senator Rockefeller said. "So it's not just a question of stopping, that's what you hope to do, but it's also following up in case something does happen."

Senator Rockefeller said the $7 billion network will take several years to build.
