The Monongalia County Sheriff's Office is investigating a single vehicle accident that happened Tuesday morning on Smithtown Road.
Sheriff's deputies were dispatched at 7:46 a.m. just south of Ashton Estates on Smithtown Road.
Deputies said that a 1999 Dodge truck, driven by Carroll Heater, 73 of Morgantown, was traveling south when the vehicle failed to negotiate a left curve, traveled off the roadway and went into a grass culvert/ditch. Heater was pronounced dead at the scene.
The vehicle's impact with the culvert/ditch caused it to roll several times, ejecting the driver, according to the sheriff's office.
The condition of the driver is unknown at this time. Deputies said no one else was in the vehicle at the time of the accident. MECCA 911 records indicate that the medical examiner was called to the scene.
Anyone with information in regards to the accident should contact Captain Mark Ralston or Deputy Randy Stockett at the Monongalia County Sheriff's Office at 304-291-7260.
