The Marion County Patriot Memorial Flag campaign is moving closer to its goal thanks to donations from the community.
Woodmen of the World has donated $35,000 toward the purchase of the 125 foot flagpole.
Chesapeake Energy has donated $3,000 for installing and maintaining flood lights.
Veterans said the project has great meaning.
"It's something that close to my heart because I know that these guys fought for that very symbol; the American Flag," said Vietnam Veteran Rick Hardman. "For what it means. To me, it means a lot."
The flagpole will overlook Interstate 79. The project is expected to cost $80,000.
A dedication ceremony is planned for Flag Day next year.
