The Monongalia County Commission approved the rezoning of two land areas in the West Run District Wednesday.
Commission was split 2-to-1 in voting to change several properties near the Stewartstown and West Run road intersection.
A public hearing on the land was met with mixed emotions. Commission President Bill Bartolo voted to pass the ordinance revision based on the planning commission's recommendation, saying county commission is not an investigating body.
"We're decision makers. If we're going to manufacture our own evidence, than there's no need to listen to other people's evidence because we're not going to rely on it we see something that's more important and that's not our job," Bartolo said.
The new zoning is mixed residential and commercial properties. The planning commission passed the new zoning 4-to-3 in August.
The second zoning change may make way for a new hotel.
The commission passed the zoning revision 3-to-0 to change several parcels of land off Pineview Drive.
The parcels will become general commercial areas.
The commission said there is interest in hotel construction in the area, but that the planning commission would still have to approve plans for the hotel.
