FAIRMONT -

As part of National Fire Prevention Week, Fairmont General Hospital and the West Virginia Division of Forestry teamed up to teach fire safety to children.

The Division of Forestry brought a video, games and coloring books for the kids to learn about fire safety. 'Smokey the Bear' came to share some information as well.

The Division of Forestry said October 1 to December 31 is designated a forest fire season, meaning the public cannot burn between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Fires must be attended to at all times and must be cleared down to mineral soil for a minimum distance of 10 feet around what is being burned.
