CLARKSBURG -

Law enforcement agencies were put on notice Saturday night, after Richard Lee Counts, 23, told his family members that he wanted to shoot officers or be shot by them.

Counts family members in Salem called the Harrison County Sheriff's department and reported that he took a shotgun and their 2002 Chevy Venture van without permission. They said when Counts left he was threatening to shoot officers, and said he wanted to be shot by them.

Counts was later stopped near the I-79 and U.S. Route 50 interchange.

He is in the North Central Regional Jail charged with petit larceny, theft of a vehicle, and driving with suspended license. His bail is set at $6,000.

The West Virginia State Police, Clarksburg Police, Bridgeport Police, and Harrison County Sheriff's Department all responded.
