Marion County Sheriff's Department Arrests Man on Child Neglect, Drug Charges

The Marion County Sheriff's Department arrested a Mannington man after a search warrant execution turned into a major investigation.

The sheriff's department arrested Shaun Helmick, 32, Monday on charges of child neglect and operating a clandestine lab.

The criminal complaint said deputies originally went to Helmick's house investigating possible stolen property.

When deputies knocked on the door, Helmick answered with a knife and was very shaky.

Deputies observed several bottles and hoses with smoke coming from them.

State Police arrived on the scene to find a clandestine lab, bath salts, needles and packaging materials.

Helmick is being held in North Central Regional Jail with bail set at $400,000.
