Some Monongalia County students are thinking green.

Westwood Middle School took part in the Alternative Fuel Vehicle Odyssey Day, a series of international events that focus on alternative fuels.

Students at Westwood learned about solar cars, and worked with miniature wind turbines.

"At this age, these are our future leaders," said technology education teacher Jeanne Oiler. "These are the kids that are going to be deciding in a few years the changes we are going to need to make in America to be more fuel efficient, to protect our air, to protect our generations to come."

West Virginia is ranked 49th in fuel efficiency in the US.
