WHITE HALL -

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Marion County sponsored a Lights On AfterSchool rally Thursday. The AfterSchool Alliance has sponsored the event for 11 years.

As part of the national event, Marion County organizations were invited to hand out information on the family and youth services that are available.

"We're trying to bring awareness to the importance of the quality of affordable after school programs and to bring the community together to show their support so that we can reach policy makers so that funds are allocated to organizations that provide safe havens," said Stacey Spadafore, site coordinator for the Boys & Girls AfterSchool Club.

The event also included children's activities and an interactive performance about bullying and character education. Club members showcased what they've learned in their clubs.
